My Story

I've always been drawn to creating things.

Long before White Owl Design, there were painting, sewing, and cooking lessons, gynastics, dance and cheerleading. Various shop/Ag classes. I've always been fascinated by how creativity can shape the way people experience the world—whether through the arts, craftsmanship, beauty, fashion, or the spaces we call home.

I also grew up with a very practical understanding of home.

We didn't have elaborate spaces or expensive finishes. We used what we had, made things last, and understood that a home was first and foremost a place to live. There was happiness and comfort there, even when things didn't match and "beautiful" wasn't necessarily part of the equation.

That background has stayed with me.

I don't believe a home needs to be extravagant to be meaningful. I believe it needs to be intentional.

A  Moment That Stayed With Me

When I was in my teens, I had an experience that I didn't fully understand at the time.

I was employed by a framing crew, and we took our client to look at another home built from the same plans they were using. The purpose was to show them a finished version of their home and help finalize custom architectural elements for their project. I went along, expecting to see a house that was simply similar to the one we were building.

Instead, I walked into a home that felt completely different.

The architectural emphasis, the natural light, the views, the landscaping, the furnishings, and the way the spaces flowed together all created a feeling that was difficult to explain. Nothing seemed excessive. Everything simply felt intentional, comfortable, and right.

I didn't have the knowledge to understand why that home affected me so strongly. I only knew there was something about it that I couldn't deny, and I wanted to understand it further.

It would be many years before I began studying construction and design, but that experience stayed with me. Looking back, I think it was one of the first times I recognized that a home is more than a collection of rooms and materials. The intentional selection and relationship of those elements, and the way they communicate with the people moving through the space, have the power to positively influence how those people experience it. And in a home, that experience happens every day.

Somewhere between construction and design

My path into design wasn't a straight one.

My first career was as a cosmetologist. Once again, I found myself drawn to creativity and self-expression, but this time through hair. The industry was fast-paced and ever-changing, and a salon could be a bustling, energetic place on any given day.

No two people wanted—or could have—the same result. Two clients might begin with similar circumstances, but their individual features, daily routines, and maintenance expectations would lead to completely different outcomes. The process was about understanding the person in front of me and creating something that was uniquely their own.

Even now, I have found few things as rewarding as the smiles my clients would give me when their appointment was finished.

Looking back, I realize I was practicing the same philosophy I bring to interior design today.

I eventually returned to college as an adult, initially pursuing construction management before moving into a degree focused on the software and technology used in the construction industry. Along the way, I also earned a certification in Residential Interior Design.

Throughout that time, my work has included customer service management, interior design project management, CAD drafting, and design consulting in flooring and tile.

Each experience added another piece to the way I understand structure and design—a different lens through which I see a home.

I learned how things are designed, how they are built, how materials perform, how projects are coordinated, and how overwhelming the process can become for someone who doesn't work in construction every day.

That combination of experiences is what ultimately led to White Owl Design.

What I believe about design

We build many of the same spaces over and over.

A kitchen still needs a sink, a refrigerator, a range, and a dishwasher. A bedroom still needs a place to sleep and store clothing. A living room still needs to function for the people using it.

But the way those spaces feel can be completely different.

A bedroom might feel like a quiet retreat or something moody and unapologetic.

A kitchen might invite close friends to gather around the island, or it might be designed to impress while entertaining a room full of people.

A living space might encourage a family to settle in together, or it might create energy and curiosity when guests arrive.

The materials, proportions, lighting, architectural details, and furnishings all contribute to that feeling.

That's what interests me most about design.

Not simply creating a beautiful room, but creating a space that feels right for the people who live there.

Why White Owl Design exists

Building or renovating a home is an incredible opportunity, but it can also be overwhelming.

Homeowners are suddenly expected to make decisions about things they may have never considered before. Builders are balancing schedules, subcontractors, budgets, and the needs of their clients.

I believe both sides deserve better support.

My role is to bring design expertise into that process in a way that is practical, collaborative, and grounded in how homes are actually built.

For homeowners, that means having someone beside you who can help turn hundreds of decisions into a process that feels manageable and intentional.

For builders, it means having a design resource who understands the realities of construction and can take on the interior design support their clients need—without taking over the builder's role.

Ultimately, I want the experience of creating a home to be something people remember with excitement rather than relief.

Because building a home is an opportunity not everyone gets.

If you have the opportunity to create one, I believe you should be able to look back and say:

"I loved the home we created—and I loved the experience of getting there."

That's what White Owl Design is here to help create.
